Some of My Favorite Songs, by Decade
Happy new year everybody.
As it is, if I’m writing music, I don’t listen to music. But, if I’m not writing music, I am listening to music. Right now, I’m not writing. So, I wanted to make some playlists for myself to listen to. My personalized Apple Radio station isn’t bad, but it might jump from Deadmaus to The Association to Pantera, so I wanted to narrow things, a little. I created playlists by decade, from the 60’s to the 90s. I will do a pre-1960 playlist next, but most likely will not go post-2000. When I do, I will update this page with the link to that.
A few things, if you’re interested in listening:
This is mostly rock music. Things don’t always fit neatly into categories and, for those of you old enough to remember, terrestrial radio used to play everything on the same station. I’d hear Guns n’ Roses, Janet Jackson and Tracy Chapman back to back to back. So, especially in the 80s and 90s when I was listening to the radio, you might find some pop songs and even a few rap songs. As much as I love Motown and Soul music, I felt like they should have their own playlists, and some good ones exist, so I threw a few in, but not as much as I would normally.
I left off some obvious things in the past. No Beatles, no Stones, etc. There’s tons of those already. I love Help! to Sgt. Pepper’s, and the Mick Taylor era Stones, but if I want to listen to those, I will. There’s no Zeppelin, very little Queen, etc. for the same reason. Some band’s biggest hits aren’t present, but lesser singles or album tracks are because, probably, I like those songs better.
There maybe some mistakes. I tried real hard to make sure ‘89 went to the 80’s and ‘90 went to the 90’s, but these were made pretty quickly, so my mouse trigger finger might have been mad. Please don’t email me and say “uh, dumbass, that was released in December of 1989 and you have it in the 90’s!!!” Just skip it if you want.
They are in no particular order.
So, without further adieu, here are the playlists…
