Concerts: 2010 - 2013

2010

Hootenanny - Some Park in Irvine, Irvine, CA

Chuck Berry / Devil Doll / Old 97s / Nick 13 / Shooter Jennings / Roger Allen Wade / Koffin Kats / Chris Shiflett

Flew out with my dad to see this one.  Jerry Lee Lewis was supposed to be there, but was sick.  One of my favorites, I never got another chance to see him.  Chuck Berry was dogshit.

Joe Firstman / Trey Lockerbie - Jeffersonville, IN

I knew Trey and was living in Louisville, so I went to this.  Joe’s first record is great.  Now he’s doing the Cordovas with one of my best friends, Mark Bates.

Social Distortion / Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band - Bogart’s, Cincinnati, OH

I saw Social D a lot.

The Reverend Horton Heat - Headliner’s Music Hall, Louisville, KY

2011

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Newport Music Hall, Columbus, OH

Riot Fest - Various Venues, Chicago, IL

Corrosion of Conformity / Danzig / Samhain / Misfits / Social Distortion / X / Youth of Today

Highlight of these shows was seeing X play Los Angeles from beginning to end.  First of several times I saw X.

Jesse Malin / Vice Tricks - Zanzibar, Louisville, KY

I was not yet in Vice Tricks, but I did hang out with Jesse for a while after the show.  I dropped Waz’ name and we chatted for a while at the bar.

Lucero - Zanzibar, Louisville, KY

I remember very little about this show.  It was the first time I saw them and I lived about 200 yards from Zbar.

Neko Case - Palace Theater, Louisville, KY

She had already lost me at this point, but my wife still dug her.

Danzig / Mayhem / Marduk - Some Metal Tube, Louisville, KY

Social Distortion - Some Metal Tube, Louisville, KY

2012

Everclear / Sugar Ray / Gin Blossoms / Lit / Marcy Playground - Riverbend Music Center, Cincinnati, OH

My daughter was in the womb.  This was technically her first show.

Koffin Kats / Vice Tricks - The Melody Inn, Indianapolis, IN

I am in Vice Tricks now.  This was a great, great show.  One of the funnest I’ve ever played and the boys in the Koffin Kats are top notch dudes.

2013

Coachella - Indio Polo Grounds, Indio, CA

Airborne Toxic Event / Alt-J / Band of Horses / Biffy Clyro / Blur / Descendents / Dinosaur Jr. / Dropkick Murphys / Father John Misty / Franz Ferdinand / Grimes / Grinderman / How to Destroy Angels / Johnny Marr / Kurt Vile / Metric / Modest Mouse / Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds / Of Monsters and Men / Paul Oakenfold / Phoenix / Portugal, the Man / Puscifer / Red Hot Chili Peppers / Richie Hawtin / Sigur Ros / Social Distortion / Spiritualized / Tame Impala / The Gaslight Anthem / The Kills / The Lumineers / The Postal Service / The Stone Roses / The XX / Two Door Cinema Club / Vampire Weekend / Violent Femmes / Wild Nothing / Yeah Yeah Yeahs

With that line-up, what needs to be said?  Dropkick Murphys and Red Hot Chili Peppers are two of the worst bands I’ve ever heard, but I did see them.  The Grinderman set is one of the best sets I’ve ever seen in my life.  Look up “Kitchenette” on YouTube.  I’m standing right by Nick for most of this song, it’s other-worldly.  The Stone Roses weren’t great live, but I’m a huge fan and it was incredible to see them play live finally.

Hootenanny - Irvine, CA

Social Distortion / Face to Face / Murder by Death / Old 97s / Nashville Pussy / Lindi Ortega / Roger Allen Wade / Phil Alvin & Exene Cervenka

Billy Idol (Acoustic) -  USC, L.A. Times Book Fair, Los Angeles, CA

We went to the book fair for something to do and stumbled upon Billy and Steve Stevens playing a five song acoustic set.

Danzig (with Doyle) - Fox Theater, Pomona, CA

Another show I went to solo.  Rough crowd at this one.  Even the chicks scared me.

Greg Graffin - Unknown Art Venue, Echo Park, Los Angeles, CA

Greg was signing one of his books and doing a short acoustic set.  I also got to meet and talk to Mr. Brett while I was there.

Rancid / The Transplants - Fox Theater, Pomona, CA

Again, went alone, but had a great time.  This was Rancid’s 20th anniversary tour and the Transplants were great.

Stereophonics - Henry Fonda Theater, Hollywood, CA

I don’t remember this show to save my life, but I have a video of it.  I would have been driving, so I didn’t get drunk, I have no idea why it disappeared from my memory.

The Killers / The Felice Brothers - USC Basketball Arena, Los Angeles, CA

Another one where I wasn’t a huge fan when I went, but left one.  I love The Killers now.

Tiger Army - House of Blues, San Diego, CA

First time seeing the band, one of my favorite bands and they’re so good live.
