Mountain Climer
Mountain Climer is the solo project of Jeremy Climer, a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whose eclectic musical journey spans decades and across the continent. From his early years in Columbus, Indiana, to stops in Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Chicago, Louisville, and a return to Los Angeles before settling in Colorado, Jeremy’s life and music have been shaped by a blend of small-town roots and a broad, American perspective.
Growing up in rural Indiana, just north of John Mellencamp’s childhood home along Indiana 11, Jeremy was immersed in the sounds of his family’s old country music and classic rock radio stations. However, it wasn’t until the early '90s that his musical world expanded when he discovered punk rock—a genre that would profoundly shape his artistic voice. In 1993, while flipping through vinyl at Karma Records, Jeremy stumbled upon the Sex Pistols. This discovery sparked an obsession with punk, and soon, his influences expanded to include the likes of Nick Cave, The Cure, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Tom Petty, Oasis, and Stereophonics. Despite growing up without cable or regular access to MTV, Jeremy’s love for music blossomed through a self-taught journey, spending hours digging through record bins and absorbing a diverse range of sounds.
Jeremy began playing guitar in 1991, and as soon as he learned a power chord, he was writing songs. This early commitment to music became a lifelong pursuit, and through the years, it allowed him the opportunity to work with some of his musical heroes, including Paul Roessler, Bill Stevenson, and Paul Mahern.
In 2022, Jeremy released his solo debut as Mountain Climer, I’m Not Enough & That’s Okay—a record that Jeremy calls "unfinished business." Describing it as the "pop punk record I always wanted to make," the album marked a milestone in his artistic journey. It was also a deeply personal learning experience, as it was the first project Jeremy recorded entirely on his own at his home studio. The mixing process was a turning point, with Bill Stevenson offering Jeremy some tough yet necessary advice that prompted him to enroll in a recording program to refine his skills.
It was through this program that Jeremy connected with Travis Dolan of Level 32 Studio in Denver, and in 2023, the two collaborated on a string of releases. These included two EPs—Let the Blood Flow and Lead a Horse to Water—as well as the single “A Pretty Good Picture”, all of which were mixed and mastered by Dolan. The music on these releases continued to evolve, mixing influences of punk rock with rich, introspective songwriting.
In 2024, Jeremy released the EP Reconstruction, further solidifying his artistic growth. Looking ahead to 2025, he is preparing for the release of his next full-length album, Before You Turn Out the Lights. Produced by the legendary Paul Mahern (John Mellencamp, Iggy Pop, The Fray, Lily & Madeleine) in Bloomington, Indiana, the album marks a bold new direction for Mountain Climer, blending heartfelt songwriting with an even deeper sense of sonic exploration.
Through his solo work as Mountain Climer, Jeremy Climer continues to build a catalog that reflects both his punk rock origins and his ever-evolving understanding of music production. Before You Turn Out the Lights promises to be his most ambitious and captivating work to date.
